Clara Barton (1821-1912), was a pioneering nurse during the Civil War, and founder of the American Association of the International Red Cross. Barton was educated at home, and at 15 started teaching school. She was named Superintendent Union Nurses in 1864, a year before the war's end, and through her new title was able to provide supplies, assistants and training directly to the frontlines. Cars is a terrific story. It's a blast to watch (especially if you happen to be a car fanatic, as the realism of many visual details is astounding), and it's loaded with positive messages about selflessness, slowing down, enjoying life and learning how to be a good friend. Lightning exclaims, "They're just driving by! They don't know what they're missing!" That message—that we miss the best life has to offer when we're moving too quickly—is one of the film's strongest.
